Carla Mead

Early Years Admissions

My name is Carla Mead. Building Blocks has been my professional family for over twenty years, during this time I have met and worked with some amazing people and to this day many of them are still here working alongside me. It has been wonderful to grow and develop alongside them and the company. I joined Building Blocks in August 2001 and during this time I have been given so many opportunities to explore different age groups from Beautiful Babies right the way through to our Kids’ Club. I have taken on different roles within the company from Lead Practitioner through to Nursery Manager before settling in my current role as Early Years Admissions which I love. These opportunities and experiences allow me to fully support all families I come into contact with including those at the start of their search for childcare, those beginning their journey at Building Blocks and all our current families as they move through the nursery and off to school or into our Kids Club. I find nothing more rewarding then when a place is offered, accepted and start dates confirmed as I know that we have a new family to welcome to Building Blocks excited to start their journey with us.

Claire Page

Early Years Administrator

I started my Building Blocks journey in September 2013 when I joined the Dundonald Road team as a Nursery Manager. I love the family feeling of the company and how they are very passionate about everything they do. My daughter Amelia joined Beautiful Babies at the same time, she was 5 months. She adored it and still talks about her teachers and friends to this day.

In September 2016 I moved to Kingston Road to open our Nursery School. I was more hands on with the children which I loved J. I stayed there for a year until Amelia started Reception and my Son Thomas started High school in the September 2017. At this point I was given the fantastic opportunity to change roles which allowed me to work term time and be able to do the school drop off and pick up which is something, as a Mummy, I really wanted to be able to do.

As Early Years Administrator I support all the nurseries and I love it! I work 2 days at Fulwell in Teddington and 3 days a week at Wimbledon. I am the company Data Protection Officer as a main aspect of my role involves the organisation and filing of all paperwork surrounding the staff, children and families within the setting. I also help answer the phones, welcome any visitors and generally be on hand to support the managers and the staff team wherever possible. Having been a Nursery Manager for the company I fully understand the expectations and goals of the company which enables me to be more effective in my administration role.

Karen Welsh

Early Years Accounts

I started at Building Blocks on 5th November 2008 as a part time administrator in central office. Having taken time off to raise my family I was looking forward to getting back into the working environment. My role increased each year – the main task being  ‘managing the waiting list’. As Building Blocks is a highly sought after nursery this was at times a very stressful position though thoroughly enjoyable! It is very rewarding letting parents know they have secured a place, thus relieving them of pressure! In my previous positions prior to Building Blocks I dealt with accounts, so it seemed natural when our accounts person left in October 2012 to take over this position. I deal with all of the parent accounts, childcare vouchers, funding, processing of fees and any queries parents may have. I have 2 boys, 1 of which is at University and I live in Pyrford, Surrey.

Kim Keen

Early Years HR

My Name is Kim and I have worked for Building Blocks since 26th March 2012 and my role is Early Years Human Resources (HR) as well as the companies Health and Safety Officer. I work in our central office based in Kingston upon Thames. As Early years HR I am usually the first point of call for all past present, and future employees of Building Blocks, assisting with all HR enquiries and requests. I work closely with our Operations Manager and Operations Director with regards to all human resources policies, procedures and programmes. My background is in early years and I hold an NNEB. I have over 30 years’ experience of working in childcare and was one of the first people to achieve grade A Cache in Special Educational Needs. I have worked my way up from Nursery Assistant right through to Nursery Manager. My HR experiences come from working alongside various HR departments and I have attended various courses on employment law, health and safety, GDPR and EyMan our nursey software package. I love to travel abroad, go out for meals, visit the cinema and spend quality time with the family.
